Nene Valley supports many charities. Initially members would nominate a charity to support for a 12 month period and these have included Helen House Hospice in Oxford and the Maxicare Appeal to save stray and unwanted dogs from destruction, run by Animals in Need in Northampton. In the early days we made small donations to these local charities from the proceeds of raffles. However, as the Chapter became more established and the membership has grown, we have been able to raise larger amounts. In 2003 we donated £500 to Cancer Research in addition to the £170 to the nominated local charities.
We made a donation to the Tsunami Appeal in 2005 and our ladies entered a team in the Tesco Race for Life, raising almost £3,000 in aid of Breast Cancer Charities. Our parent organisation HOG UK also supports Breast Cancer Charities and we regularly get involved with these events and make donations. In December 2005 we received a request for help from the daughter of two of our members, who was trying to raise £1,000 for a 10 day trip to Costa Rica in April 2006. Rachel has been registered blind from birth and attended RNIB New College in Worcester. The college were organising this once in a lifetime trip for some of their students and Rachel was trying to attract support from local businesses to raise her share of the cost. Our kind hearted members rallied round and raised the entire £1,000 for her, in addition to their ongoing commitments to other charities. 2006 saw our first Easter Egg Run to the Children's Ward at Milton Keynes Hospital and our Early in 2007 we adopted the Keech Cottage Children's Hospice in Bedfordshire and added them to our Easter Egg Run going on to visit them after Milton Keynes Hospital. We also spent that year fundraising, resulting in amassing almost £2,000 for items on their "Wish List". In 2008 a small group of our members were instrumental in setting up Ride To The Wall which raised £10,300 for the National Arboretum in Staffordshire. This will now become an annual event. |

In January 2004 the chapter decided to give donations to the newly set up Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and this has now become a permanent commitment in the form of a £40 monthly direct debit payment. Also in 2004 we were asked by the Mayor of Northampton to take part in a fund raising event he was organising for Cancer Relief and this too has become a regular event on our calendar.
ladies once again entered a team in the Tesco Race For Life, held at Silverstone race track, raising in excess of £5,000 for Cancer Charities. Our ladies are again entering a team in 2009.
